Placement and Check in at Fire Camp 2025

8/11/2025

This is it y'all the last email before we reach playa! See below for a message from Lorraine to help you find your way home.  But first!! A gentle reminder that we need a few things before we arrive on playa.
1. We need more helpers signed up in the kitchen for prep and cleaning Friday through Monday.  I know it's fun time - but eating is also fun and we need helpers to feed you!  Go to the Volunteer Page to link to the sign up.

2. The bar works when everyone contributes.  We ask that you bring something to share.  Find the link HERE.  Sign up on the 'Bar Bevs' tab and let us know what you are planning to bring
Woohoo!  Can't wait to see you all soon!  love, stefie

Now from Ms. Lorraine...

THIS IS A BIG ONE! And your last email before we see you in the dust.

PLACEMENT

Why? Getting all the things to the playa and setting up your home is your first Burning Man stress test. Whether you’re a feng shui artist or just want to park your butt and your beer bong wherever, we aim to minimize that stress.

MAP LOGIC

Instead of placing y’all on a strict grid (ugh), we make neighborhoods out of groups of old and new friends with new-to-camp folks mixed in. See the attached camper list to find yours.

To do this, we consider your requests, power, services, arrival and departure dates. Larger structures and early arrivals help define the spaces, then tents and later arrivals fill in. Placement will direct you to your general area when you roll into camp, but we leave it up to you to arrange yourselves. Please take up just the space you need with consideration for those arriving later who still need room. With 160 campers in our little patch of heaven it’s tight, but we adore being close  !

POWER

Our fabulous generator influences placement. A lot. First, those of you on camp power see your Generator email (bring your cables!). Second, you’re grouped to match our spider and main box outlets. 15amp-ers, see the camper list for spider box assignment (SB1, SB2, SB3, SB4, SB5). On the map, your names are loosely clustered around those boxes, so please locate in those areas. 30amp-ers, you will share your line via a Y-end and your partner will be near you on the map.

Be aware that Team Generator may ask you to move or plug into a certain box, so please be courteous as we make sure you have access to the power you paid for.

ARRIVAL AND CHECK-IN

When you arrive, take a breath. Stretch your legs. Get some hugs. Placement peeps (Lorraine and friends) will help you find your spot and you’ll have plenty of time to unload and set up. If you arrive in the middle of the night please chill until morning. We’ll move you to your permaspot as needed.

Please check in at the Camp Info table located in the Undome next to the kitchen. We mark off that you’ve arrived, give you your meal bracelets, share the happenings, and check your volunteer hours. All questions answered!

VEHICLES

Camp is not a parking lot. We get dinged by the org if we look like a camp o’ cars. If your vehicle isn’t part of your sleeping infrastructure, you’ll move it to a staff parking lot specifically for this purpose (it’s cool that we get to use staff parking!). It’s located at 5:30 out past L.

Plan to drop it off right after you’ve set up your camp (ride your bike back… guarantee you’ll have adventures on the way!). Place a sign on your dash with your name and “ESD Camp 3” on it. Placement can help you with this.

Regarding the inner road, it must be kept clear. And please avoid driving over power lines and lights. Duh. If you’re asked to move yer f’ing truck, it’s because something needs to happen in that spot for real (like poop pumpout)!

SPEAKING OF POOP

Services access is important. If you’ve ordered pumpout, please leave a walkable path to your poop chute. Your rig needs to be findable and access unlocked so you can get pumped without being present in camp.

WELCOME

Our camp is special and you’re a part of the amazingness. Be welcoming to all who wander around camp and enjoy getting to know your new fam. We have a ton of fun new people this year, so veterans, please share your camp culture wisdom.

FINALLY

As we said above, things change. No one can predict what camp will really look like, so as we build our beautiful space, we adjust. Burning Man is an evolving adventure and our simple goal is to make space for everyone in all ways.
The Placement clipboard will be trotting around camp starting 8/18. Please email [email protected] if you have questions or text 650-704-4491 any time. Safe travels!

Much love,
Camp Cor (this one from Lorraine )
